• Examine historical factors that families may bring into the adoption process, including criminal history, substance abuse history, chronic mental health issues, and recent experiences of grief and loss.
• Integrate cultural sensitivity and competency strategies into home studies for a diverse range of families.
• Identify strategies for engaging families that are resistant to concepts like trauma, cultural competency, and openness with the child’s birth family.
• Formulate a team-based approach in the home study process. This includes effectively collaborating with other professionals and service providers, such as agency staff, medical providers, employers, mental health providers, and other relevant stakeholders, to gather comprehensive and accurate information for the assessment.
