NCFA uses media outlets to educate policy makers and the general public about the value of adoption, and to reinforce the positive option of adoption. NCFA's efforts include news commentaries, press releases, and public service announcements.

Among the many media outlets that have turned to NCFA for expertise and comment are:

Broadcast Media

ABC Evening News, CNN, CNN Headline News, CNN International, National Public Radio, CBS Evening News, NBC Evening News, Nightline, Post-Newsweek Television, Larry King Live, British Broadcasting Company, Sonya Live, Geraldo, Sally Jesse Raphael, 60 Minutes, Fox Morning News, NewsTalk Television, Black Entertainment Television, Good Morning America, Today Show, MSNBC, C-SPAN, the Oprah Winfrey Show, and many others.

Print Media

Associated Press, United Press International, USA Today, Washington Post, New York Times, Washington Times, Dallas Morning News, New Yorker, Time, Newsweek, Wall Street Journal, Christian Science Monitor, Reuters, Woman’s World, Ladies Home Journal, World Magazine, Los Angeles Times, Cincinnati Enquirer, Cleveland Plain Dealer, Philadelphia Inquirer, Miami Herald, Des Moines Register, National Review, New Republic, Weekly Standard, Des Moines Register, Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun-Times, Boston Globe, People Magazine, Kiplinger’s Personal Finance, Town and Country, and many others.

National television networks, magazines, and Internet news providers rely on NCFA for comments on current events that affect large segments of society. When the epidemic of SARS threatened the adoption process in China, the media, including CNN, USA Today, and Associated Press, turned to NCFA for reaction. Local television and radio stations, as well as newspaper reporters turn to our experts when they need to add a local flavor to a national story, and regularly quote NCFA sources.

NCFA spokespeople are trusted sources when it comes to adoption news. NCFA President and CEO Thomas Atwood and others have earned a reputation for thoroughness, accuracy, and timeliness in responding to inquiries from a wide array of media outlets. When the US Census Bureau released its findings on the current state of adoption in America, for example, NCFA was quoted in over 100 articles printed in newspapers around the nation.

"Clearly adoption is alive and well in America today."

- Thomas Atwood in USA Today, August 22, 2003

"Administrative delays and roadblocks in the US foster care system also can make a prospective parent search overseas."
- Thomas Atwood on MSNBC

"No one who is adopted into his or her family should feel alone in America in 2003."
- Thomas Atwood in The Washington Times, August 22, 2003.

Stations around the country are responding favorably to a nation-wide public service campaign launched by NCFA's Infant Adoption Awareness Training Program in the summer of 2003. With over 3,600 copies of the announcements produced for television, radio, and print outlets currently in circulation, the response has been more than encouraging. National television networks, as well as local outlets are embracing the "Thanks for considering adoption" message.
